June 21, 2004: Roosevelt Island 2

As we walked south on the West Side of Roosevelt Island, we saw an enormous number of people in wheelchairs- I think the hospital there must be a rehabilitation facility. I'm not sure if it was that, or just the strange ghosts of the Smallpox Hospital- but the entire walk had a sort of funereal air. Not sad, precisely- just a little silent and spooky. [Unrelated: the voters have spoken, and it appears that pictures 1, 3, 7, and 8 are the most popular- full results after the jump.]

You didn't go inside?
of course not, mike- there was a fence. that would be illegal.
you know jake, your pictures are influencing me to convince my husband for us to revisit nyc this year for our yearly vacation! your photos are so beautiful and they capture everyday new york in the most amazing way.
Jake, the fence is only a suggestion to that entering COULD BE illegal. And this, like all suggestions COULD BE ignored :)
but what about the signs that said "tresspassers will be prosecuted"? and the police car waiting just outside the fence? not to mention the smallpox germs! have you seen mike recently? boils everywhere!
Ah yes, signs, cops and smallpox, always the best deterrents.
