July 3, 2004: Graffiti Palimpsest 1

I saw a Nova episode on the Archimedes Palimpsest, and I guess the word got stuck in my head. It reminds me of Umberto Eco novels and stories about great paintings hidden under watercolors during World War II. The other day I was up in Nolita for the Jen Bekman show, and I looked across the street at that huge graffiti wall- a great example of a palimpsest if ever there was one. [To compare previous versions, you can see some pictures I took of the wall last year, or look at ones that Mike took last month.]
