Tien Mao's new apartment in Greenpoint has very white walls and very high ceilings, so the flash really brightened the room. It was nice to see some of the Gothamist crew, and to also take the opportunity to inspect the work of Tien's building contractors. Top notch job. [Unrelated: sometime after we hit the Cyclone today, my trusty Canon G2 died. It just won't turn on- no combination of battery changing, reset-button pressing, or disassembly seems to be reversing the issue. I am heartbroken- we had been together for so long. I will call the Canon people tomorrow and find out if I missed anything- but if not, I will be buying a Canon Pro1, and giving my G2 the burial that it deserves.]

jeeze, my apartment does look really bright and white in these photos. at least you documented the evening. i was too busy walking up and down the stairs.

The last shot is pure Jake-as-a-stalker work! Brilliant! [Not so brilliant: My stomach flab. Sigh.]

And tell me where, if needed, I can send flowers for the Canon G2 burial - I will miss it, too.

Jake:

Sorry to hear about your camera - it was your wee baby!

oooooh- good news! canon has an upgrade program- they are willing to replace my G2 with a G5 for $300, which is probably what the G2 would have cost to fix- they are mailing me the new camera right now! the pro1 wasn't included in the offer, so i may use the G5 for the rest of the year until the pro1 gets a little cheaper- $1000 for a secondary camera seems too much to me right now.

hmm, i wonder if they will take a trade in of my broke ass camera.

Nice! Jake, the G5 is an awesome camera. I'd have gotten one if I wasn't a Nikon slut :) Enjoy it!

They will give you about $250 for the broken G2?!? Wow. Will they trade a G3 that is not broken? Do you have a link to this Trade-In program.
As always, stellar photos. Are these with the 550EX or 420EX flash? Digital rebel?

totally- i had already fully depreciated the camera, so the $250-300 bonus was a nice surprise. plus, since i would have had to go out and get the pro1 today anyway, it's a relief not to have to lay out $1000 to keep shooting- if i have enough money after the wedding, i can make that decision.

I've notice that your picture quality is really clear. At what resolution do you save your pictures before you post (low, medium, high)? Do you save for web?

in all my image directories, you find 4 folders: not used, originals, processed, and web. the originals and not used are just sorted images right off the camera- the processed ones are 100% versions saved at JPG 9 on photoshop- i don't use them for printing, but occasionally i need larger versions. the web files are save-for-web JPGs saved at "high" on photoshop (JPG setting 60), approximately.

Nice shots, very clear

Must look into the g5

Just to let you know, I contacted Canon regarding the trade-in option:

INQUIRY: Do you offer a trade-in program? I have a Canon Powershot G3 and was looking to purchase a new model. My G3 is in very good condition. Thanks.

Canon's Response:
Unfortunately, Canon currently available Loyalty Program is available for non-functioning cameras only. Functioning cameras cannot be traded in using this program.

PS How many photos had you taken with the G2?
