November 18, 2004: Below Delancey 5

About 99% of what I shoot is in landscape orientation. The biggest reason, of course, is that the landscape dimensions fit best in website template. This, in turn, is a consequence of the fact that most computer screens are landscape. I could try to shoot portrait style, but most of the shots would just get cut off about 2/3rds of the way down for most users, so it just doesn't seem worth it. The alternative is stiching two portrait shots together (for instance, like I did here), but that looks pretty bad. Anyway- once in awhile the portrait style is justified, as I think it is in the picture of the Temple, above. Getting the shot involved reorienting the tripod and tilt shift lens (the lens actually has a built in pivot for just this purpose), but otherwise it was pretty straightforward. I didn't do it quite right- you can see a little bit of convergence distortion up towards the top of the image.
Your photos are so beautiful.
Jake, nice site man. I like it all. Very well done, keep up the good work.
