November 29, 2004: Badlands

East of Essex and South of Delancey there are six square blocks of parking lots. I'd have to ask Lockhart Steele to be sure, but I believe that it is the largest single expanse of fallow real estate below 14th Street in Manhattan. Sometime during 2000, when I was living on Orchard, I began thinking of that area as the Badlands- a vast, empty expanse of nothingness. Of course, on closer inspection, it turned out to be very different: lots of people walking around with their dogs and lots of cars driving by. [Unrelated: I've posted 580 cameraphone graffiti pix to Flickr/Typepad so far. When I get to 1000, I'd like to make a single poster with all of them, but I can't find any software that would automate that process. Any ideas?]

have you tried out andrea's mosaic software?
http://andreaplanet.com/andreamosaic/
i have- but it seems to have two problems:
1. it crops all the pictures to square tiles
2. it is for creating mosaics- and what i want is a full randomized grid
so i'm not sure it would work- can anyone think of a way around that stuff, or another piece of software?
I was wondering if you tried applying that firmware hack to your digital rebel that releases some of the features of the Eos 10d? If you have, would you please share your thought on it. TIA, Rich
no- i haven't used the hack, b/c i was worried about screwing up the digital rebel. also, none of the stuff the 10D had were all that interesting to me- i don't even use all the features on the DR yet.
