January 18, 2005: Chile 2

I don't talk about it much, but for the last couple of years I've been a full time MBA student at NYU. It's a great program- very heavy on economics, finance, and strategy theory, which are the academic subjects I've been most interested in since college. Down here in Chile, our course has involved a lot of lectures in the morning, and then company visits in the afternoon. One day last week we went to a brewery outside Santiago- bottles were just whizzing around on conveyors and the whole place smelled like beer. Today we went to visit Chile's largest newspaper- there were these three story high printing machines and thousands of newspapers flying through the air. Very cool stuff- visiting all of these brick and mortar places makes me feel very humble about most of the internet businesses I've worked for or with in the last ten years.

I know exactly what you mean. The scale of some industry can be awesome. I don't shoot corporate/industrial stuff anymore but when I did I always felt privileged and really enjoyed visiting these kinds of places. Making them look pretty (which was the fashion back then, and probably still is) was always a challenge and frankly never did the places justice. However the Investor Relations people could really never get "Real".
at first i thought the first photo was a shot of a military march from high above shot during some sort of parade, but boy was i wrong.
