Night Falls on the Westside

This light! This goddamn winter light! Yesterday I was out for a two hour walk through Chinatown, and I don't think I took more than five pictures. Either the sunlight is blazing right in your face, washing out everything, or else you are deep in the cold blueish shade. A fill-flash helps, but not much- better perhaps to go indoors entirely from October through March. My prediction: lots of Thompson pictures this month on Bluejake.

I'm with you on the horrid light. I thought this weekend would be fantastic for outdoor shooting, and it was a totally all-or-nothing light situation. I'm counting the days until the spring equinox, and bracing for Thompson.

Not only is the day short... the sunrises and sunsets are really short. So even if you're shooting at night it's tough. I've also had the problem of the level of wind making using a medium-weight tripod for long exposures difficult.

not that i don't love your photos, but.... YAY THOMPSON! : )

spring is coming soon and we will be able to set the clocks and you will get nice spring/summer night shots

This is a nice series, I particularly like the lines and shapes of the first two.
