Silver Towers & Washington Square Village

The Central Village is a vast wasteland in terms of my project- I've shot on every other street below 14th, but somehow after all of these months, I still can't drag my camera up to the neighborhood bounded by 6th, Houston, Bowery, and 14th. This is a vast area, and vastly boring in my estimation- but I'm going to try to chip away at it in small bits. These shots are from the Silver Towers and Washington Square Village developments just north of Houston- huge, terrifying buildings put up by NYU in the 1960s. I've shot the Silver Towers before- but I still don't feel like I've captured their sheer scale.

I think you did a great job with a mundane subject matter. Good work.

this kind of thing is hard to do. I think that you have gotten a great start by capturing the rhythm in the repetition. reminds me of Andreas Gursky, especially his Paris, Montparnasse.

Odd how briefly buildings like this were objects of desire for New Yorkers, but I think there must have been a moment when they represented something clean, fresh and new. Perhaps a couple of months in 1964.
