April 30, 2005: California 2003 Revisited
I was out in California twice during 2003- once to get engaged and another time to set up the wedding. At the time, I was still shooting with the Canon G2. During the second trip, I drove up to San Francisco by myself over the course of a couple of days- the pictures aren't much to look at now, but at the time I thought they showed real improvement.

This has been said by someone else recently, but why do you have to say things like "the pictures aren't much to look at now." Let the pictures speak for themselves. Why set your viewers/readers/whatever up to have low expectations of what you put up?
i agree in principle- it's just hard to restrain my critical eye sometimes. and like i've said a few times before- we need to be harder on our own work. at best, wonderful photographers take a few good pictures every year. by the end of this year i'll put up about 1000- how many of them are really built to last?
but that's not to say these pictures are worthless- they have value to me- but the value is in the learning- the improvement i can make on the next ones i shoot. for such a product-oriented artform, it's really all about the process.
Fair enough : ) Maybe it's just me, but there’s something that I don't like about every one of my own pictures. I'd just rather have someone else actually voice the criticism.
