May 15, 2005: Down Hill Derby
Yesterday I high-tailed it down to Columbia +Heights+ Street in Brooklyn Heights to watch some insane hipsters race down the hill. The contestants were pretty brave, given the shabby state of their vehicles: one used wheel chair, one futon on wheels, and two skateboard/bikecart things. At the finish line, the crew strung a huge piece of bubblewrap between two lampposts to prevent anyone from sliding right into traffic on to Old Fulton Street. Extremely awesome stuff.
It's Columbia Heights, dude. Columbia Street's on the other side of Atlantic.
