August 28, 2005: Graf Ride 2

Today Mike, Will, and I led a bike tour of great graffiti spots in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens. We started up on 106th and Park-- at the Graffiti Hall of Fame. Some production company had rented out the yard for a hip-hop video, and the producer was livid when I explained there were 30 bikers coming to take a look at the walls. After much screaming, we worked out a compromise where they let us in for fifteen minutes. After that, Will and Mike led the way-- we went up around Harlem for the "Crack is Wack" wall and some De La Vega stuff, then into the Bronx for some old school walls near the Major Deegan. Then there was a long ride over the Triboro to Queens, where we visited 5 Pointz. I had to jet after that, but I think the rest of the crew went to see some spots in Brooklyn. [Semi-related: tomorrow morning Streetsy goes live!!! Many thanks to Eliot for making the dream a reality, and for the WoosterCollective and Gothamist for sponsoring the site.]
