Announcement: with much help from Youngna and much advice from Eliot, I've switched to RAW format on my D20. This involved an upgrade to PSCS1, and a tutorial on RAW pre-processing, so it took me a few days to figure out how to actually go from camera to RAW file to JPG.
I think the results will be good-- sharper images (for instance, I noticed this one is slightly out of focus-- something I'd have probably missed in JPG), and better control of color balance and exposure. I think I'm finally ready to hit 2006-- I'll probably stay at the 900x600 size for the year. And of course, ruthlessly focus on editing, subject choice, and technical qualities of the work.
I love Cookie!
Classic shot.
Can you share your new RAW workflow with us out there in photoland?

the RAW workflow is pretty simple-- open the RAW file, pre-adjust in photoshop (Eliot recommended http://www.digitalphotobook.net/tutorials/camera_raw/cameraraw_1.html) and then do a normal adjustment in Photoshop-- I usually do curves, resize to 900x600, then sharpen using unsharp mask.
