Pale Male is a Red Tail hawk (you can tell the difference by the tails - a red tail does not have a striped tail like the Coopers does.)
actually the bird is Lola, Pale Male's fledglings' mama! if any of youse is interested, there's a Great Horned Owl in Central Park doing his thang, thang!

saw a very similar bird in prospect park a few months back - they're just amazingly huge in person, aren't they?
jake -- that's a Cooper's Hawk. They come down from Prospect Park into my back yard to eat the occasional pigeon. This is a great photo!
I actually thought that those are American Kestrels, although beautiful regardless!
