October 14, 2006: Street Shooting 1

When shooting street, I've arbitrarily set some rules-- that I won't introduce myself or ask to take the picture, that I'll endeavor to use natural light, and that I'll avoid cropping the final print. Major deviations from these practices seem to suck the life out of this kind of shot. I've been thinking of this quote from Weston: "Since the recording process is instantaneous, and the nature of the image such that it cannot survive corrective handwork, it is obvious that the finished print must be created in full before the film is exposed." [Related: I also liked this one, but then decided not to use it.]
