October 22, 2006: Rosa's
I'm still working on getting closer. So far, some success and some failure. In between those experiments, I've still been shooting from across the street. I can't figure out another way to show people in their environment with the same honesty. Take this shot, for instance-- had I been closer, I'd have a portrait of the guy in the striped shirt, but you'd miss the whole sense-of-place, which is just as important. How can you get close and still capture that? [Related: I took this one a couple of blocks away-- I almost used it, then decided not to.]
