October 26, 2006: Raul in a Canoe on the Gowanus Canal

Joe is a member of the Gowanus Canal Dredgers, a canoe club with a dock on Second Street. On Sunday afternoon he invited a few of us out to row the canal with him-- we spent two hours on the water, and covered the entire canal-- all the way from Douglass to the Red Hook Bay. It was an amazing to see the Gowanus from a new perspective-- it's all glistening oil pools on the water, strange plants growing out of the seawall, and weird shapes lurking below the surface. I'd love to go out again-- this time I had trouble rowing the canoe and shooting at the same time.
