January 19, 2007: Steam in Gramercy Park

I was walking on 20th Street yesterday when I noticed one of those billowing orange steam chimneys that the city sometimes puts up in the middle of the street. The thing was putting out an enormous column of white steam, covering all the trees and buildings on the north side of the street. An hour later, I came back and it was still going-- if someone left their window open, they came home to find everything inside their apartment had gotten a free sewer-steaming. Fun!
