January 25, 2007: A Building on East Broadway

One of the things that fascinates me about East Broadway is the way these little storefronts change over the years-- from yeshivas to churches to restaurants and back again. The neighborhood is probably the last bit of ungentrified real estate below 14th Street in Manhattan-- but not for long. Apartments in the towering co-op projects along Grand Street, one block to the north, are already going for $750k (at the low end), and towers have been sprouting up for the last couple of years by the Manhattan Bridge. So check it out while you can.
