Karen absolutely loves gardens and birds, so the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is one of her favorite places in the city. A couple of weeks ago my friend Kate invited us out to an after-hours event there-- it was totally fun, walking around the garden in twilight, drinking wine. One of the highlights was listening to Patrick, the BBG's head horticulturalist, talk about the history of the garden and the various species on display. Did you know that in the aftermath of World War Two, anti-Japanese rioters broke in and burned down the Japanese garden? Fascinating stuff.
