September 10, 2007: Buildings North of Tel Aviv

Buildings North of Tel Aviv

Since we had come to Israel for a funeral, I wasn't much in the mood to take pictures. I'm not a portraitist, and even if I was, taking pictures of people in mourning seems wrong to me. And since we spent most of our time at Shiva, or else visiting relatives, I didn't have time to wander in search of landscape shots. There were a couple of breaks, though-- the day before we left we had an hour to walk along the beach in Hertzliya. On the way back to the car I noticed these strange buildings-- the first of many going up in the area.

i would fav. this if i could - was there anything else around or were these just off by themselves in the middle of nowhere?

thanks, sam. they were pretty much off in the middle of nowhere. there were a few other buildings going up closer to the beach, but these were a few blocks inland. tel aviv is expanding north, so the area will be filled in eventually.

and you indirectly inspired this one-- the original felt a little bland to me, so after that shot you holga-ized last week, i did a little more photoshop than usual. notice the darkened edges and unusually high contrast.

This shot stopped me in my tracks.
Great photo.

That area has a lot of strange developments sprouting around. Very cool colors in that shot.
