October 20, 2007: Dry Cleaners

Last Sunday I walked from Park Slope to Greenpoint, a journey of about eleven miles. I didn't set off to walk that distance, but it was a nice day, and once I got started I just kept going. My route took me through Prospect Heights, Bed-Stuy, and Williamsburg-- and I snapped a lot of pictures along the way. This is the only one I felt like using, and that got me thinking: most of my good shots are taken in neighborhoods within a few blocks of water-- either the rivers, or the Ocean, or one of the inlets or canals. Maybe that's because New York City allowed most of its coastline to rot during the 20th century, and I'm attracted to that decay. I'm not really sure-- but I know the further inland I get, the less I like the pictures.
