October 30, 2007: Coney Island Creek

Coney Island Creek

On Sunday I met up with Sam and the Nates to explore Coney Island Creek-- using an unusually low-tide that gave us access to the shoreline. It was a cold, clear day when we set out from the Home Depot parking lot. We soon split into two groups-- me and NateD were exploring a group of half-sunk barges, while Sam and NateK headed further up the shore to the main collection of half-sunk ships. After awhile, we followed them-- they had already crossed the little bay photographed above. But we soon found ourselves knee-deep in Coney Island mud-- composed equally of sewage, coal-tar biproducts, and seaweed. We managed to stagger across the field-- but four pairs of shoes were destroyed. Five, actually-- when eLiz followed us in an hour later, she got caught in the same trap.

I can't believe all of you lost your shoes, that's just wild.

It's funny, I was just on the other side of the creek on Sunday, shooting around Neptune Avenue. I had to send my film out to be developed, hopefully I can post some photos this weekend.

so. disgusting. can't we get nate's boat and just row here?
