The La Brea Tarpits are one of the most popular tourist destinations in Los Angeles-- so this insane elephant snuff-diorama has definitely given thousands of children nightmares. It always freaks me out every time I drive by on Wilshire, or visit LACMA, the museum next door. I know that it's important to dramatize things to make science more interesting to people-- but come on-- the baby elephant screaming for his mom drowning in the pit? That's just over the top.
