December 31, 2008: Looking North from DUMBO

Another year come and gone! February will bring the seventh birthday of this site, and the beginning of my eighth year as a blogger. I think it's been a pretty good year for me as a photographer-- I learned some new stuff (split level filters and RAW processing!), had a great photography show (Quality of Life at Factory Fresh), and got to visit some new places (The Navy Yard, finally!) Here are a selection of my favorite pictures from the year, as well as an index of the ten photoessays I produced. See you in 2009!

Isn't this actually looking east?
yep, it is! i think of it as north, because it runs parallel up the coast of manhattan, but the coast is actually running east at this point, around corlear's hook. but it's slightly north of true east.
Check the map... actually it's slightly *south* of true east. i.e., not north at all.
Hey Jake,
Love your photography, keep it up. I wish I had 1/4 the talent that you do.
Hey Jake!
You're a true inspiration for me! Hope to see a lot more of your work in the future!
Fantastic. The light and subject matter. Keep it up!
