February 1, 2009: Idiotarod 2009

Conditions were working against us at yesterday's annual running of the Idiots. The race started at the abandoned East Side Helipad at 60th and York, which was tough ride through the freezing cold from Brooklyn. And then there was the light-- it was that harsh January blue sky sun, and for most of the race we seemed to be shooting right into it. So my pictures weren't what I hoped they'd be-- but that's not a big deal. I still had a good time riding around, drinking some of Sam's Jim Beam-in-a-bag, and generally screwing around.
Related: another shot I kind of liked and the full set I shot for Gothamist.

Ha, I am one of the organizers of the race and a photographer. Every year I think I'm going to get the best shots ever, then I get so caught up in the fun (and whiskey), my pics suck. I've decided the idiotarod is best remembered in my heart then on film.
