March 10, 2010: Boyle Heights
Yesterday I took a tour of the American Apparel factory with Zach and Liya. It's down on Alameda and 7th Street, just East of downtown Los Angeles. I arrived about 45 minutes early, so I decided to take a drive. On Google Maps, I noticed an area on the other side of the river named "Brooklyn Heights", which I thought was interesting, since that's the name of the neighborhood where I live in New York. I drove over there, and it turned out to be a little area of Boyle Heights, a predominantly Mexican neighborhood. I drove around for twenty minutes, looking at the murals which decorated many of the streetcorners, and then I turned around and headed back downtown.

Seriously gorgeous! I love how Mexicans paint signs right on the stucco. Except for certain details, these could be right out of Mexico. Makes me want to go back...

Interesting to see a little table and shrine or worship area on the sidewalk. i don't think I've seen that anywhere else, but I have not been to L.A. much except for the airport a few times. Colorful photo. Thanks.
