Hannukah
Party
Our second annual Hannukah party was a big success. It's hard
to believe we fit 25 people in our tiny apartment on Thompson
Street. Karen and her friends did most of the cooking- I'm
not in any of the pictures because I'm behind the camera.

Thanksgiving
in California
This was the second time we were in Los Angeles this year.
We spent most of our time driving around the city- hanging
out on the West Side and going out to eat. I shot this roll
with an older SLR camera- my first time with a real camera
in a couple of years. Highlights include our trip to Santa
Barbara and LA MoCa. |

25th
Birthday Party
These birthday photos were actually taken by Josh on his Sony
Digital Camera. The dinner was held at this restaurant AZ
on 17th Street in Chelsea. The food was pretty good- Asian/Weird
fusion. My birthdays are usually pretty disaster prone, so
this was a welcome relief. |

September
11, 2001 Polaroids
I was just getting up when I heard the first plane fly fast
and low over our apartment building about a mile north of
the trade center. I ran up to the roof when I heard the explosion
and took these pictures on my Polaroid. It was horrible- I
had binoculars and you could see the people on the top floors
waving for help. I was there for the first WTC bombing in
1993- our high school was just two blocks away- so everything
that happened on September 11th came with a sickening sense
of deja vu. |

Milan,
Forte Dei Marme, and Rome
Karen and I had been in Europe together once before- in 1999.
During that trip we made it as far south as Amalfi, but this
year we stayed mostly in the north. We arrived by way of Milan,
and after a quick night out there, we went back to this hotel
in Forte Dei Marme where we had stayed with her family for
a week two years before. After a few days on the beach, we
made our way down to Rome, and met up with our favorite Dutch
friends for a weekend of shopping, eating, and taking in the
museums. |

Sevilla
and Cordoba
Back in 1997, while I was studying in Salamanca, I travelled
around Spain with a bunch of the other students. One weekend
we all went down to Sevilla- I remember walking through this
street fair on the wrong side of the river drunk out of my
mind and then collapsing at this flea bag hostel where we
were all staying. This visit was just as much fun- we stayed
at Los Seises, this nice hotel a block from the Cathedral,
and chilled out for three or four days- eating in the old
Jewish Quarter and strolling around the Alcazar gardens. We
also stopped in Cordoba for an afternoon, but it was way too
hot to do much of anything. |

Madrid
I spent a lot of time in Madrid back in 1997. I had been travelling
across Europe with Liz, and after seven or eight weeks we
found ourselves in the Spanish capital. We parted at Chamartin
Station- she went back to London and I went to Salamanca to
study Spanish. This was the first time I had returned to Spain
since then, but it all came back to me. I took Karen around
to all the tourist spots, and we ate a lot of great Spanish
food. After a week we went down to Sevilla, but came back
to Madrid for a friend's wedding before moving on to Italy.

Memorial
Day in Montauk
I love going out to the end of the island and just hanging
out. Most people like the Hamptons but I just can't hang with
all that money and fakeness. I used to spend a lot of time
in Amagansett, which is the last town before Montauk and also
very nice. The stretch between the two towns has a few great
seafood stands and the most unspoiled stretch of beach on
the south shore. |

Karen
Polaroids
Karen and I have been living together for about a year, and
going out for a little more than two years. We met sophomore
year at Columbia, in the Wein Dormitory on 116th Street. We
didn't start going out until I moved back to the city in January
of 2000. I like these pictures- they capture her around the
apartment as I see her everyday. |

SoHo
Objects Polaroids
I've always been pretty materialistic- it's definitely a character
flaw. In March of 2001 I tried out the Polaroid on a few of
my favorite possessions in the apartment. The photo to the
left is a detail from an Argentinean poster for Bresson's
Pickpocket. It's definitely my favorite possession. Close
seconds include the toy soldiers, the computer setup, the
new TV, the guitar- but I have begun to sicken myself. |

SoHo
Friends Polaroids
I moved into the apartment on Thompson Street late in January
of 2001. It was a strange time- OVEN was a rollercoaster,
and I was teaching three or four classes at the New School
as a backup. The apartment has had its share of parties and
visitors over the last couple of years- mostly our small circle
of friends. The apartment is actually quite small- although
it looks bigger from all of these angles. |
